STROKE & FLIP TURN CAMP STARTS MONDAY!

    Hi Sand Creek Sea Lions!

It is hard to believe that stroke camp starts on Monday, April 27th.  If you are receiving this email, it means you have a child(ren) registered for one of our pre-season camps. We are really excited to meet our new swimmers and welcome back those returning to this great team.

If you are new to the Sea Lions and your child is 8 and under and has not taken a swim evaluation, please come to the pool on Monday at 3:15.

The schedule for next week (April 27th thru May 1st) is as follows

Stroke camp will be led by our Team Manager, Kim Kelley who is also the Head Coach for North East Houston Aquatics. Kim was a three time State of Michigan high school backstroke champion, a US Open 200m backstroke champion as a high school senior and achieved multiple top 20 world rankings and USA Olympic Trials time qualifications.  Kim has been coaching swimming for more than 25 years. Two of our Sea Lions coaches, Jane Walton and Brent Fluker, will also be coaching stroke camp, together with some parent and teenage volunteers.

We are aware that the pool water may be chilly! Here are some helpful tips from Kim for stroke camp:

    1. Hot Chocolate will be provided to the swimmers at the end of each practice.

    2. Bring extra towels and warm clothes to put on immediately after practice.

    3. Wearing a long sleeve swim shirt or long sleeved “under armor” type shirt will help keep swimmers warm during practice.

The Swim Shop will be at the pool on Monday only between 3.30 pm and 6.00 pm selling swimsuits.  If you are a returning swimmer, the suit is unchanged from last year.  We will also be selling other Sea Lions merchandise and taking orders for the team sponsorship t-shirt if you didn't order when you registered online.

Parents and siblings of swimmers are not permitted inside the pool area during stroke camp. This allows the swimmers to remain focused on the instructions being given by the coaches. Once regular practice starts, parents may come into the pool deck area on Thursdays for a closer look at practice.

Parking – During practices and meets there is very limited parking at the pool. Please walk, bike ride, or park at Deerwood if the pool parking lot is full. For the safety of our children, please do not park along Timber Shade in front of the pool between the crosswalk and stop sign. Also, please do not move the Orange cones to park. If dropping your swimmer off for practice, please drop off on the pool side (west side) of Timber Shade to minimize the risk of getting hit. Our neighbors get very concerned when they have difficulty navigating down Timber Shade so please be considerate and always leave ample room for through traffic. There are good bike racks at the pool, but remember to lock up bikes.

If you have any questions please contact Elizabeth Green at [email protected] or Debbie Hughes at [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you on Monday
