    Coach's Review

What a great first meet Sea Lions!

The weather seemed to know that Saturday was meant for swimming fast and the clouds held off long enough for us to successfully finish the meet. I hope the warmer temperatures prevail and the storms hold off so we can swim at all practices this coming week! The coaches will do their best to work with the swimmers in and out of the pool during the practices if any days become touch and go with the weather.

I saw some fast swimming this weekend and a whole lot of team spirit. Sandy the Sea Lion was proud! ARF ARF! As everyone got into the swing of things, I saw the whole community helping each other out. That is what this whole thing is about, in my eyes. So thanks to everyone for showing up and helping to make this meet go as smoothly as possible. As a team, we’ll be working on our relay starts so we’re prepared for those events early Saturday morning as well as our sportsmanship, specifically staying in the water until all the swimmers are finished. Now that’s everyone has been through the motions, we’ll be sure to give the Gators a warm welcome to our pool this weekend as well as some mighty Sea Lion competition!

This first week with the 6 and Under’s went really well! I can already tell that all the kids are starting to progress and become more at ease in the water. The red and black meet was a great benchmark for where everyone’s skill and comfort levels actually are, especially since it was some peoples first time to jump off the block and go all the way across by themselves! This past week in practice we focused much more on making sure the kids were capable of completing that goal, as well as the safety of their starts, making sure they were jumping outward and not down. This coming week we will start practicing more stroke technique, while we continue to build confidence in the pool, and most importantly have fun! I can’t wait to see all the kids at practice! Hi everyone! I just wanted to say how excited I am for the rest of the season, and how happy I am with how the 6 & unders did at the Red/Black meet on Saturday! We got good benchmark times for everyone, and we know what we need to work on. Many of the kids have only been to a few practices, and I know some of them were down about their times. Remind them that they will get better with every practice and encourage them to come as often as they can! If your swimmer did not come, or did not get a time, please have them be there Monday or Tuesday as we will have the blocks out for make up times! This week we will really be focusing on backstroke with keeping their bellies up high, and breathing to the side on freestyle. Thank you for letting me coach your children, I am so excited for the rest of the season and getting to know each and every one of them!

The 7-8s blew me away this weekend! I didn’t get to make any of their practices before the meet (because I was finishing up my first year at Colorado School of Mines) but their excitement at the meet was contagious. Everyone’s freestyles and backstrokes looked awesome and we’ll keep those warmed up for the upcoming meet. More importantly, everyone’s going to work on the breaststroke and butterfly this week so we’re completely ready for the Gators. I noticed that these tricky strokes took us by surprise, but there’s no need to worry! We’ll be sure to work on the technique and make vast improvements come the next time we swim them! I look forward to my first week of practices! ARF ARF!

Howdy Parents! I thought the Red/Black meet this weekend went very well. The boys were full of energy doing cheers on their own at the ready bench, and the girls were great about being ready for their races. As far as disqualifications go, the 9-10s were pretty good compared to the younger kids, but we still had some scissor kicks on breast and fly and other small things. All the big problems with strokes have been noted and will be worked on this next week so we can do our best against the gators this Saturday! One more thing was a small sportsmanship issue with swimmers getting out of the water before everybody else was finished, but we will also talk about that this week. All that aside though I am extremely excited to work with the kids this week (except Tuesday when I'll be taking my last final in College Station) to get all the fine details ironed out for Saturday. I can't wait so see what these kids can do!

    Coach Andrew

I am extremely satisfied with how the Time Trial meet went this past weekend. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend stroke camp and the first week of practice due to school obligations so this was my first opportunity to meet many of the kids. I can truly say that after the meet I am even more excited now to finish finals and begin coaching your wonderful kids. Sadly, because I have finals, I will not be at practice until next week and I will also miss the Greentree meet this coming weekend. My fellow coaches promised to work extra hard in my absence, with a special focus on flipturns and IM transitions, stroke technique for butterfly and backstroke, and just generally working on stamina since many kids are transitioning to swimming 50's and 100's rather than 25's. I know the kids will be in a fantastic place for next week's meet and I cannot wait to see how much this age group improves as a whole throughout the summer. See y'all soon!

    Coach Aaron

I am really excited to get started this season with the 13+’s! I was impressed with the performance of our older swimmers with just one week of practice and I look forward to helping them improve as they chase their goals this season! In the upcoming weeks, we will be refining the turns specific to each stroke, breaking down the fundamentals of each stroke, and working on improving our starts. I hope we can get as many kids as possible at the Greentree meet this weekend so that can bring in points for a victory!
    Enjoy your week!
