Coaches Meet Review
What an awesome meet Sea Lions!! I’m so excited to see that our hard work is already paying off with a win on our first dual meet! Especially against tough competition provided by the Gators! I know the other coaches and I had a blast starting off the meet with the relay. If time permits and the other team agrees, we hope to do a relay at the other meets!
If any swimmer didn’t do as well as they wanted, I don’t want them to worry! We didn’t get to practice hardly at all last week due to weather. Once these storms clear up, we’ll be able to really work on technique and improve our times!
Thank you for being patient with us this past week. Texas weather is hard to predict and most of the days started in light showers that turned dark. I understand how frustrating last minute calls are but I ask you to be patient with us one more week. The forecast looks questionable but the coaching team is just as eager to have practice as the kids are. In addition, we will be having a DIVE CLINIC THIS THURSDAY right after practice (7PM) for those of you that want a little extra help on dives for $5. A sign up sheet will be posted on the red board with a limit of 20 kids. Every week we will work on starts three times, but this clinic allows for more specific focus on the technique, an extended time to work on dives and more personalized advice from the coaches.
This week, as a team, we will be working on sportsmanship. I am so proud of all the kids for their behavior this weekend. The gators and the sea lions are longtime rivals in the pool, but as a team we are going to emphasize that this competition begins and ends in the pool. In a moment of poor behavior, our homemade signs from the pep rally were vandalized. However, the kids responsible apologized to the coaches and now we must move on. So this week, we ask the kids to make more signs! We want to decorate the pool to show the Eagles our Sea Lion pride!!
This coming weekend is the Eagle Springs meet at home. On Friday, our pep rally theme is super heroes!! Dress up as any famous superhero or a totally original creation for a chance to win the costume contest! Just like last week, we will be having a poster contest! Encourage your kids to create a poster and bring it in anytime this week! Also, the coaches will have a special skit ready to perform for the kids at 6:30 so make sure you’re there!
Thanks for an awesome first meet! I look forward to the rest of them.

6&Unders
We are so proud of how all the 6&Unders did on Saturday! Many of the kids dropped a lot of time even though we didn't have much practice time this past week. Hopefully the weather cooperates this coming week and we'll be able to get some good practices in! This wekk we'll work on safe starts where we look at the block and not the official and continue to work on backstroke. Both of us have had such a good time these past few weeks, and we hope all the kids are having as much fun as we are! We still remember our years as 6&Unders, and we want to make this year a great and memorable one for all the kids!

7/8s
The 7-8 group seemed to be the swing group as far as points went. But we dug deep and whipped out some fast times. I am so proud of all the girls and boys for getting up on the blocks and swimming their hearts out after missing so many practices. My proudest moment was talking to a lot of the girls before the backstroke. I told them that the Sea Lions are known for their sportsmanship then asked them how they show it. They immediately came up with tons of awesome answers without hesitation. And on top of that, the boys had a never ending supply of spirit while they waited for the ready benches. As a group, everyone did much better on the harder strokes. A big focus this week will be dives and finishes. Thanks for an awesome meet and let’s get even better next weekend. ARF ARF

9/10s
Howdy Sea Lions, really great job this weekend! I was amazed at the energy and enthusiasm the 9/10s brought to the pool against our rivals, the Gators. The kids swam hard through the entire meet and definitely did their part in our 60 point victory. I love it when the 9/10s head to the ready benches because they always get excited and lead their own cheers and show great attitude. I'm very proud of the boys and girls that I am in charge of this year so far, and I seriously cannot wait to see how far we can go as the season continues. Hopefully we will have better luck with the weather this week and can get more practice time in, but I hope the kids are excited to take on the Flyers thisnext Saturday! ARF ARF ARF

11&Ups
I am overjoyed with our three-peat victory over Greentree and I am incredible proud of the swimming from the 11&Ups, especially given we could only practice one and a half times this week. Way to go Sea Lions! I am so proud of the support they showed towards their younger teammates. There wasn't a time in the meet that at least one or two of the older kids weren't cheering on the sidelines for the little kids. They showed the kind of leadership that this team needs in order to get better as a whole. So keep it up! Looking forward, we are definitely going to work on our breaststroke, backstroke and starts, as well as racing strategies. Since their a little older, we can really focus on specifics that will help shave off time. Thanks for a great first meet!
