    Notes from Coach Sarah

We’re half way Sea Lions!! Already we’ve overcome storms, conquered tough swims and arf’ed our way to the top. I am so proud of all the sea lions that swam this past weekend. I know each and every one of us gave it our all. That’s the kind of heart that most teams only wish for. I am also proud to coach a team full of such well rounded kids. That being said, sometimes it is also difficult, because our whole team can’t always make it out to every meet. This particular meet, the Flyers had the upper hand in attendance when it came to the older age groups. Either way, both teams swam really fast and the weather graciously let us swim!

This upcoming meet is always a favorite of mine because it’s against my old team, the Waves! I love to show off the Sea Lion spirit and sportsmanship any chance I get. All the kids are starting to show the famous Sand Creek sense of sportsmanship by staying in the water on individual events until the whole heat finishes but it’s a tricky concept to grasp when they’re either eager to swim or exhausted from their race. So I ask the parents to talk to their kids about the idea of waiting until everyone finishes and congratulating their peers to emphasize the positive aspect of competition. This meet is the last chance for the kids to get Summer Champs qualifying times! If you’ve already signed up, there is a box out every practice for the payment on the table inside of the pool. I hope to get as many swimmers in that meet as possible! It’s a really fun opportunity for the kids to swim in a higher level meet before All Stars or Ponderosa.

This Friday is picture day and pep rally night! The coaches are putting together a special performance to get the kids excited for the meet, so be sure to come out! The performance will be around 6:30 PM in the pool area.

Every Thursday the coaches will be holding a diving clinic for extra help from 7-7:45. There are sign ups on the red board in the entrance to the pool and is limited to 25 kids. The fee is $5. We have been working with the kid’s dives at practice at least three times a week. However, this improves the kids comfort on the blocks. When it comes to any kids comfort with entering head first, this takes more personalized help, which is what we offer in these clinics.

Next Friday, June 5th, we will be having combined practices: 8&under 4-5 and 9&up 5-6. There will be fun relays, lots of swimming and even more team bonding. It’s a great chance for the younger swimmers to see what the bigger kids do and for the older kids to give some Sea Lion wisdom and have fun swimming competitively.

See you this afternoon for pictures and the pep rally!
